2019 marked the 50th year one of the area instructors (Richard Olson) has taught the Hunter Safety course offered by the Wisconsin DNR. The first courses were offered at the National Guard Armory in Menomonie, WI. Then, the Dunn County Fish and Game offered to have the courses taught at their building. When the Armory closed the firearm range, the instructors moved the field test to the Menomonie Public Shooting Range, where it is currently held
2024 marked the 34th year that the Dunn County Fish and Game has assisted the Wisconsin DNR in providing Hunter Education and Safety courses, providing a place to hold Outdoor recreation safety and certification courses. Over the years, we graduated 4304 hunters through the course. The course consists of classroom and field tests. In 1993, a partnership was formed with the Menomonie Rifle and Pistol club to use the Menomonie Public Shooting range as our Field testing site.
From 2017to 2019, the Road2Freedom organization starting putting on shooting events in conjunction with the Menomonie Rifle and Pistol Club to raise money to pay for youths to take the hunter safety class. To date they have paid for over 170 youths to attend.
